Website Maintenance

July 23, 2008

Just wanted to update all the readers out there.  HONAHA is currently undergoing some major modifications.  My good friend Tanner from Antix Design is helping me clean up the page, add some new features, and get the site ready for the next level.  Please stay with us over the next few days, the site may look strange at times, but will be operational none the less.  I will continue to post new things so stay tuned as always.  Thanks for all the support.

This one is for all you do-it-yourselfers out there. Check out this home built electric motorcycle. Looks like the guy tied a few Optima dry-cell batteries together and hooked them to a little electric motor. This baby is rumored to go up to 45 mph, and have a range of a little over 20 miles. Also, this whole project cost under $3,000. I really like this idea, and think that it would be a really fun project to build an all electric cafe racer. For all the details on this bike click here.
Something like this may just be HONAHA’S next project if gas prices get much worse. Stay tuned.

I know I’ve been slacking on the posts again, but you know how wild summer can be. Anyway, I wanted to highlight another great looking aftermarket cafe racer seat similar to one I wrote about in an old post, but perhaps even better looking. This seat is fiberglass, and has a little lower bubble than most as well as a flat spot at the very end for a taillight or just to give it some distinction. Also they make them for cb 750s 550s and 400s, as well as xs650s. Personally, I really like the looks of this seat. In fact it is a front runner in the race to see what seat I choose to put on my own cb550…serious stuff. Take a look at caferace inc. their seats come in a gel coat from the maker, and look mean on just about any application. For more info or to place an order click here. Enjoy this link, caferace inc. has a ton of cool cafe racer parts and accessories. Enjoy.

I just got back from a week long vacation to the Oregon coast, so please forgive my lack of new posts. This is just a quick post regarding a past entry that highlighted some really cool bar end mirrors, but dont worry, more fresh posts soon. I wanted to share with the readers where to buy these mirrors since last time I wasn’t doing my job. This online store sells a ton of really nice bar end mirrors… get them all day everyday here. Isn’t HONAHA great… always coming through clutch to get you the hard to find stuff. Enjoy.

This is way overdue, but here it is. I took these pictures of my cb550 last night, and thought I had better let everyone know what was new with my project. I don’t have a ton of time to work on this so its taken me a while to get much done, but here it is. All the details, and more pictures can be found on the “My CB550” page. I want you all to check it out, and leave me some comments about it. Also, let me know if you have questions about the bike or anything else for that matter. Look it over good here.

WOW. Back to back double picture days. You guys are really getting spoiled. Enjoy it. Always more here.

I figured it’s about time to highlight another bike today, so I chose this beautiful example of a cb750. This bike is the quintessential cb750 cafe racer. Check out the dope clip-on handle bars, the dual drilled front rotors, the giant Norton style tank, and the classic bubble cafe seat. Even the paint scheme screams classic. I really like this bike because it seems to be such a pure example of what so many of us motorcycle enthusiasts strive to create. Take notes and look it over closely because it’s the perfect mix of cafe and vintage.

Here is another view of this beauty. Double picture day. How lucky. Stick around for more posts and news here.

Polish your Cafe Racer

June 30, 2008

Today I decided to post a little tip for polishing your cafe racer engines. These older engines are often covered in oxidation, and other nastyness from being left out in the elements. Besides taking your engine apart and polishing it on a wheel, the best way I have found to clean them up is to use Mothers brand mag and aluminum polish. Simply dip a clean rag into the polish and start scrubbing your engine cases, covers, carb tops, wheels, and whatever else needs shined up. Let it sit for a few seconds and wipe it off with a different clean rag. Be warned, it takes a few times and quite a bit of elbow grease to get good results, but its well worth the sore arm. Start scrubbing.

So I decided to change it up a little today. As you may know HONAHA has never dedicated an entire post to another website. Well I decided that this particular site, and the man behind it are worthy of a HONAHA post. Steve “Carpy” Carpenter is a veteran in the cafe racer game. This guy has probably built more top quality cafe racers than every reader on this blog combined. My point is that this guy is a serious stud when it comes to CB750 cafe racers. If you think I’m just hyping this up, see for yourself at his website where you can find pictures, parts for sale, and much much more. Make sure you take a minute to scroll through all the bikes hes built and admire their originality and craftsmanship. Trust me on this one, it is well worth your time. Thanks for the inspiration Carpy.

The Avon Roadrider tire is a great choice for your cafe racer. These tires have a great reputation, and seem to be very affordable compared to Dunlops and Pirellis. I just bought a set of these tires for my cb550 and love them. They are much better quality then oem cafe racer tires, and they look so much cleaner and more modern thanks to the crotch rocket style tread pattern. Oh yeah did I mention that they come in all the weird sizes that these old bikes require……and that I know where to get them for the best possible price. No need to thank me, Im just doing my best to help the readers out. Get them fast and cheap at Tires Unlimited. You wont regret this purchase.

This is one wild custom. There really isn’t much I can say about this thing, but wow. Personally, I still can’t decide if I really like it. But what I do know is that it’s clean, unique, and very hard to build. This thing is like a cross between a Hayabusa and a Norton. I expect to get some comments back on this one, I want to know what you guys think. Start Thinking.
